The mountains demand clothing that can adapt as quickly as the weather changes. The key is a layering system:

  • Base layer: Wicks moisture away from your skin. Merino wool or synthetic fabrics work best.

  • Mid layer: Provides insulation — think fleece or lightweight down.

  • Outer layer: Shields you from wind and precipitation. A waterproof, breathable shell is essential.

The art of layering is knowing when to adjust. Too warm and you’ll sweat, which cools dangerously fast; too cold and you risk losing energy quickly. Good layering means staying comfortable and safe, no matter what the mountain throws at you.
