Cold weather drains batteries, fogs lenses, and stiffens camera controls. To keep shooting, carry spare batteries inside your jacket, where your body heat can protect them.
Use lens hoods to keep blowing snow off the glass, and keep your camera in a sealed bag when bringing it indoors to avoid condensation.
Composition matters too — wide shots can capture the vastness of the landscape, while close-ups of frost patterns or wind-sculpted snow add detail to the story. The mountains are never more dramatic than in winter; the challenge is making your camera last long enough to tell that story.
