A quick street sketch doesn’t have to be the final step. Many artists use them as references for larger, more detailed studio pieces.

Scan or photograph your sketch, then experiment with composition, colour, or mixed media at home. You’ll often find that the energy and looseness of the original sketch give the finished work a life it wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Urban sketching is about capturing ideas in the wild — but those ideas can grow into something bigger.
