Night sketching changes everything — light becomes the subject. Streetlamps, neon signs, and glowing windows create pockets of brightness against deep shadows.

Working at night means relying more on value and contrast than colour, unless you want to capture the unique palette of artificial light. Gel pens, white charcoal, or even metallic inks can make night scenes pop.

It’s quieter too, which makes it a perfect time for slow, deliberate sketches.
