Street Portraits: Earning the Shot 10 Aug 2025 • 1 min read

How to approach and photograph strangers respectfully.
Back to Blog Home

A good street portrait isn’t stolen — it’s shared. The best images happen when there’s a moment of connection between photographer and subject.

Approach with genuine curiosity, not as a hunter looking for prey. A simple smile, a compliment, or a quick introduction goes a long way. Explain why you want to take their photo and, if possible, show them the result.

Respect is key. If someone says no, thank them and move on. If they say yes, take the time to make the shot count. Street portraits aren’t just about faces — they’re about stories, and those are built on trust.
