Content Types

The Family Tree Wiki uses different content types to keep information structured and consistent.

Each type exists for a reason. Choosing the right one makes pages easier to link, browse, and understand later.

Type Purpose
Person Profile Core record for an individual person
Family Unit Parents, partners, and children as a household
Event Something that happened at a point in time
Place A geographic location of significance
Residence A place someone lived during a period
Story Narrative memories or anecdotes
Document Uploaded or referenced material
Source Evidence supporting information
Research Notes Unfinished or investigative material
Timeline Chronological sequence of events
Tradition Repeated family customs or rituals
Note Loose or partial information

Choosing the right type

  • If it’s about a person → Person Profile
  • If it’s about a household → Family Unit
  • If it happened → Event
  • If it’s uncertain or incomplete → Note

Don’t worry about perfection — pages can always evolve.
